A Healthy Planet For The Future
Carbon sequestration is the practice of removing carbon from the atmosphere and storing it. By planting cover crops, maintaining green beltways and forest management, Sandyland Farms' agricultural practices sequester tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This is recognized as a key method for removing carbon from the Earth's atmosphere and can prevent further emissions.
Carbon sequestration happens when carbon is removed from the atmosphere when carbon dioxide (CO2) binds to plants during photosynthesis, exchanging it for oxygen as a purifying emission. This carbon is stored in the natural environment through forest land, pastures, grasslands, bushes and wetlands; known as "carbon sinks" or "stored carbon". While considered an indirect form of carbon sequestration, Sandyland Farms' decisions to protect and maintain this forested land, green beltways and wetlands is crucial for ensuring CO2 is removed from the atmosphere and stored effectively.
Internal analysis of our lands in late 2023 reveal the following carbon sequestration data:
** This analysis does not take into account the carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere from the crop plants we grow each year. Otherwise, the carbon sequestration figures would be even larger and more impactful.

Internal analysis of our lands in late 2023 reveal the following carbon sequestration data:
- 1,354 acres of permanent grass, bushes and trees
- Annual sequestration of 4,568 tons of carbon
- Equivalent to 16,751 tons of CO2
- Annual valuation of $249,832
- Total sequestration of 139,077 tons of carbon
- Equivalent to 502,043 tons of CO2
- Total valuation of $8,189,213

SustainabilityThe National Potato Council has honored Sandyland Farms with the Environmental Stewardship Award for our sustainability practices.
The award is a result of our efforts on behalf of wildlife habitat preservation, water conservation, on-farm pesticide risk reduction, integrated pest management and other alternative pest control methods. Responsible land management and effective stewardship of our natural resources is our commitment to future generations. |
