WHAT KIND OF POTATOES DO YOU GROW?
Sandyland Farms grows potatoes that have been developed with all the favorable attributes for making delicious potato chips.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REGULAR POTATOES AND THOSE USED FOR POTATO CHIPS?
Chipping Potatoes have less water, as measured by a term known as specific gravity. This type of potato yields more chips per pound of raw potato.
WHY DO SOME POTATOES TURN GREEN?
Potatoes turn green when they are exposed to sunlight. The green is chlorophyll produced from photosynthesis.
ARE POTATOES GROWN FROM SEED LIKE OTHER PLANTS?
Kind of...Potatoes are grown by planting other potatoes in the ground. The potato plant grows from the "eyes" from special potatoes that are grown specifically as seed potatoes.
IS A POTATO A FRUIT OR A VEGETABLE?
A potato is a vegetable.
HOW WAS THE POTATO CHIP INVENTED?
The story goes that Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt was eating at a restaurant and sent back an order of fried potatoes because they were too thick. George Crum, the chef, thought he would teach his patron a lesson. Crum sliced the potatoes paper thin, deep-fried and salted them. Vanderbilt loved them! Thus the potato chip was born.
