Pour milk over bread and mix with eggs. Add potatoes, flour and salt. Pack tightly into balls 2 or 3 inches in diameter. Boil 20 minutes in water until firm inside. Margaret usually served these with pork chops or pork roast. She reserved the broth from the dumplings to use in making a rich brown gravy to which she adds 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. caraway seeds. She served the gravy over the meat and dumplings. |
